MWTC Challenge 2010

Servicemembers and civilians participated in the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center’s sixth annual Mountain Warfare Training Challenge on May 22, 2010. Over 200 competitors and their children enjoyed an array of activities.
At the center of the fun was the 10-kilometer MWTC Challenge race. Obstacles, including two tunnel crawls, a low crawl, a hay bale climb, the five foot wall and the tire obstacle, give the race its “Challenge” title. One of the most difficult portions, Heart Attack Hill, encompasses the beginning of the race.
Frigid temperatures didn’t keep die-hard participants from running this year’s Challenge. Jake McCain, the overall winner for the event, shaved nearly five minutes off of last year’s best with a time of 44 minutes, 29 seconds, setting the course record. “The event was amazing!” McCain said. While claiming the most fun he had was crawling through the tunnels, he admitted that heart attack hill was very hard. He plans to return next year and to tell lots of people in the process.
