Single Marine Program
The Marine Corps is committed to improving quality of life (QOL) for single Marines.
Through council meetings, single Marines identify issues, concerns, suggestions, and are involved with special events coordination and activities.
Membership
Membership isn't required to "join"-
all single and unaccompanied Marines are automatically included.
The primary target market are the 17 to 25 year old Marines residing in the barracks.
The program relies on the ideas, issues, and concerns of Marines for its success.
Benefits of the Program
The Single Marine Program (SMP) was established for Marines to identify concerns on quality of life (QOL) issues and other aspects of their lives.
The program encourages single Marines to provide input and ideas toward programming for the SMP component areas:
- Community Involvement
- Life Skills
- Health and Wellness
- Recreation
- Career Progression
Structure and Function
Motivated single Marines, a supportive command, and
Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) staff provide the foundation for a successful program.
The council includes unit representatives from throughout the command. Elected leadership positions include: President, Vice President, Recorder, and Treasurer (optional). This group comprises the Executive Council.
The installation Sergeant Major serves as the Senior Enlisted
Advisor (SEA) to the Council
and liaison to the installation
commander. The SMP Coordinator provides support and guidance.
How SMP Works
The representatives meet to identify and address issues affecting QOL for single
Marines. These issues are then submitted to the proper agency for resolution.
Minutes from each meeting are distributed to the council and
the installation Sergeant Major to keep the command informed on plans, programming, and resolution of issues.
